Launching a successful home business
Step One: Search Your Soul
It's not easy to launch a successful business. You're already aware that the statistics of first-year survival aren't very encouraging-at least, not on the surface.
The good news is that the minority who do succeed almost invariably are the ones that planned their work, worked their plan, and went at it with a unshakeable commitment and a maniacal passion.
Can you do that?
Step Two: THINK!
Any successful business has a valid "business proposition." In other words, a product or service that is perceived as having value to a sufficient number of decision-making people in your marketplace.
Many start-ups fail because they're conceived from the inside out. You've got to think "outside-in." Trying to convince the marketplace that they SHOULD want to spend their hard-earned money on your product or service when they don't already know that requires a costly, up-front marketing effort. It can be done, but you'll be deep in the hole before you make your first dollar.
So, assuming you have a genuine, existing market, the next question is, Why should they buy from you? Is your product or service of demonstrably better quality than your competitors'? Then your main job is to create opportunities to sell it-and sell it hard!
Can you do that?
Step Three: Customer Satisfaction
Not sure your stuff is any better than the enemy's? Here's your potential secret weapon: Treat your customers better than your competitors do. Given the generally shoddy levels of customer service these days, that's not really so difficult. But it takes attentiveness, responsiveness, integrity and plain-old common courtesy.
